Ultra Sound set to dominate Kurow feature

Ultra Sound looks to have the opposition at her mercy in the Fay, Richwhite Handicap, the first leg of the T.A.B. double at the Kurow Jockey Club’s meeting today. The Sound Reason mare, winner of 12 races, is well in for the race under the weight scale which has only a 6kg spread and a maximum of 58kg. The opposition, apart from the Class Two galloper, Rakahooka Looka, are Class Three at best and should not prove a major threat to the mare which is also an acceptor for the Waikouaiti Cup on Monday. Ultra Sound has been somewhat below her peak since winning over 1600 m in

the Runacres Handicap at Riccarton last month but should still hold this field at bay. Noble Trinket could be the strongest challenger to the two topweights. The ultra consistent Joe Ninety, which is aimed at the Invercargill Gold Cup, should ensure a start in the feature on January 7 with a win in the second leg, the Kurow Cup. He has been second in both the Wairio and Tapanui Cups at his last two starts. Dester, which dropped right out early at Washdyke on Monday, and News and Views, which disappointed in the same race, are each worth another chance while last year’s winner, Cappiemore, went well enough on Monday to suggest he won’t be long reaching his peak.
