Goanna frontman back

By

MATT COWLEY

NZPA-AAP Sydney After having one of Australia’s biggest national hits and a string of other successful singles, Shane Howard, the former frontman from the band Goanna, is back on the track. His first hit single, “Solid Rock,” was one of only three from Australia to reach No. 1 in its first week on the charts. The others were by John Farnham and Skyhooks. Now the days of Goanna are gone and three years later Howard has released his first solo recording and is touring the Australian pub scene. “Back To The Track” is the name of his debut solo album. The title reflects the last three years of his life. “I wrote most of the songs while in the bush,” Howard said. Howard’s journey round Australia’s outback was to see the “real” people of Australia and hear their stories.

“I was really influenced a lot by country music, but I think a person is influenced by their surroundings,” he said.

“Australian music is changing, and I think it will go into a new style and Aboriginal music will shine.”
