Injury hobbles Welsh centre Ring
NZPA-AAP London The Welsh rugby centre, Mark Ring, will miss all Wales’ Five Nations matches this season because of a serious knee injury. Ring is also highly doubtful for the Lions tour of Australia next June as the knee will keep him off the training paddock for at least three months.
The Cardiff centre, one of the architects of Wales’ Triple Crown success nine months ago, twisted his right knee in the game against Pontypridd on Boxing Day and has surgery today. Ring missed 12 months when he damaged his left knee in 1985. He saw a specialist this 'week and was told the medial ligament needed surgery and
d he might also have some s’ cartilage damage. e Ring’s lay-off is the latest if setback in a depressing jf season. He was sidelined throughs out October while speculation t linked him with rugby league and was then disciplined by s Cardiff and Wales. I He was dropped by Wales 1 for the match against
3 Romania earlier this month for being late to training but t then replaced the injured f Simon Halliday at inside ’ centre for the Barbarians against Australia at the National Stadium in Cardiff n on November 26. e Having been restored to y the national squad he was looking at the Five Nations s tournament to resurrect his t ambitions for the Lions tour.
