Changes to plans not being notified

Trampers failing to cancel intention cards are causing unnecessary work for the police.

In the last week five intention cards filled in at Arthur’s Pass National Park headquarters but not acted on had not been cancelled.

Inquiries by the police showed the trampers had safely left the park but had not notified the park authorities.

Constable Ron Hibbs, relieving at the Otira

police station, said he had two intention cards that required checking!

“It causes a wee bit of concern.” Constable Hibbs said the weather in the park had been good and it was likely the trampers had simply not informed park staff.

Other people caused problems by not filling out the forms correctly. Some diid not give addresses where inquiries could be made to find whether trampers were safe.
