Norwich back on top
NZPA-Reuter Norwich, England Norwich regained first place in the English soccer championship yesterday by beating lowly West Ham, 21. The London side prevented the host from scoring in the first half but then suffered a double blow to its decreasing hopes of leaving the foot of division one. Dale Gordon capitalised on an abortive charge by the goalkeeper, Alan McKnight, and slid the ball past him in the fifty-third minute then Andy Townsend prodded home the second seven minutes later. Ray Stewart kept West Ham in the match with a penalty after 70 minutes. Arsenal went to the top on Monday with a 3-2 win at Charlton. Norwich now heads it by two points.
