Great News leads

NZPA-AAP Sydney The Sydney yacht Great News, the 50-footer skippered by John Calvert-Jones and David Forbes, took the lead for handicap honours in the Hobart race at latest reported positions of the fleet last evening. Great News was the pre-race favourite for handicap honours in the AWA Sydney-Hobart classic after a successful season internationally when she whipped the cream of the yachting world. In the Kenwood Cup and San Francisco Big Boat Series she proved to be the fastest 50-footer in the world and revolutionised the class of yacht. In second place was Syd Fischer’s maxi, Ragamuffin, which was still leading the race for line honours by a big margin.
