Former Moderator dies

The Very Rev. Graeme Fraser McKenzie, a former Moderator of the Presbyterian Church in New Zealand, has died. Mr McKenzie, of Christchurch, was the first head of the Presbyterian Social Service Association to become Moderator. He was Moderator from 1973 to 1974. He was superintendent of the Christchurch P.S.S.A. from 1966 to 1976. His work included care of the aged and child care, especially in the development of special homes for handicapped and disturbed children. Mr McKenzie had also been involved in the Campbell Counselling Centre, the Elm Lodge Halfway Home for Alcoholics, and the Roseneath House for Maori girls. He was born in Auck-

land and educated at Wellington College and New Plymouth Boys’ High School. He later gained his B.D. degree from the Melbourne College of Divinity.

He served as a parish minister at Drury, South Auckland; St George’s, Takapuna; Trinity, Timaru; and Khandaliah, Wellington. Mr McKenzie also served on many Assembly committees, and had been convener of the inter-national-relations committee, the • life-and-work committee, the churchunion committee and the general - administration committee. He had been a member of the Joint Commission on Church Union. For several years he was chairman of the standing committee of the New Zealand Council of Christian Education, a member of the board of governors of Queen Margaret College in Wellington, and president of the Onslow College Parents’ Association. He is survived by is wife and two children.
