Solid cricket wins
p A Wellington Wellington and Canterbury recorded comfortable wins on the first day of the Hanselfs Cup national women’s first XI cricket tournament at Lower Hutt yesterday. Consistent batting through the order by Penny Kinsella, Diane Bray, Nancy Williams and Gail Heather gave Wellington a six-wicket win oyer Auckland, which returned a Modest 143 from its Severs.
Meanwhile, Lesley Murdoch and Trudy Anderson —. with unbeaten knocks of 31 and 37 respectively — guided Canterbury to a seven-wicket win over Central Districts. Jackie Clark earlier provided the backbone of Central’s 110 and Canterbury rarely looked troubled in beating that. Scores: Wellington 144-4 m 43.4 overs (P. Kinsella 41, D. Bray 39, N. Williams 32± G. Heather 26 no; C. Marshall 2-
35) beat Auckland 143 in 60 overs (C. Marshall 45, E. Drum 20 no; J. Harris 3-30, Heather 2-27, H. Fouhy 2-28) by six wickets. Points; Wellington 2, Auckland 0. Canterbury 111-3 in 47.3 overs (L. Murdoch 31 no, D. Ford 20, T. Anderson 37 no; K. Musson 2- beat Central Districts 110 in 49 overs (J. Clark 29; T. Turner 3-29, C. Campbell 3- by seven wickets. Points: Canterbury 2, Central Districts 0.
