Chance For Gold too strong
The veteran former northern galloper Chance For Gold advanced an impressive training record for Canterbury Jockey Club employee, Denis Cusdin, when the gelding won the Terminus Handicap at Timaru yesterday.
Cusdin leased the nine-year-old from North
Island interests a short time ago. He has now produced four horses since taking up training on a parttime basis some years ago, the others being the ill-fated Rockabilly Rebel, Marche Noir and Travanti, the last named having won at Timaru three years ago. Cusdin supervises the
use of Riccarton’s equine pool as part of his duties and ascribes a considerable part of Chance For Gold’s renewed zest on a swimming programme. Chance For Gold won the Wairio Cup leading up to yesterday’s victory and could race at Wyndham or Waikouaiti on the way to the Invercargill Gold Cup. He was ridden yes-
terday by John Dowling, who also rode Chance For Gold to win the Great Autumn Stakes at Riccarton last Easter and the Wairio Cup.
Dowling, like Jan Cameron, has a staged a successful comeback after being sidelined with injury for some months. Yesterday’s win was his 903rd
