Christmas

By

Michelle Barnes

aged 12 of Christchurch Christmas is a time for love, a time that’s full of joys, With toys and puzzles, games and food for all the girls and boys, On Christmas Eve, the tree’s alight, dazzling, sparkling, green and bright. And with spirits of love and care, we sit and watch by candlelight. But soon bedtime will come around, And all will sleep, safe and sound, While Santa Claus arrives with his sack, Empties it with care and slings it on his back. The children are up at the crack of dawn, To celebrate that Christ was bom.

They open their presents with excitement and glee, And with their bulging eyes they see: Games, lollies, dolls and trucks, Books, puzzles and rubber ducks, Money, chocolate, clothes and plants, And little china dolls that dance. The Christmas dinner ]is ready to eat, ' With hot roast turkey, and a pudding that’s siveet, We all sit down with hungry eyes, And empty stomachs are full size. Then evening comes, and the day is done, New Year will be soon, in days to come, But the Christmas Spirit still lingers on, Though the twenty-fifth of December has gone.
