$26,000 budget for Mob beer
PA Wellington The Mongrel Mob budgeted $40,000 —
$26,000 of that for beer — for their Wellington gang convention in October. This information was contained in a letter sent to gang chapters earlier this year by the Wellington chapter. A copy of the letter was obtained by the “Evening Post.”
The convention was held in a disused Railways goods shed on the waterfront on Labour Day week-end. An estimated 600 gang members attended, closely watched by the police.
The letter said that $lOO from each member was needed to make the convention better than the Dunedin meeting a year earlier. “Our estimated price of $40,000 covers a rough outlook comprising $26,000 for beer, $lO,OOO (bands, staging, sound systems, etc.). Anything up to $5OOO for food, with a further $2OOO for catering, with also a similar amount for Port-a-loos and servicing water.
“There is the rent on the land also to consider, along with more beer on stand-by if required,” the letter said.
