Disruption unlikely
By
LES BLOXHAM,
travel editor All-night negotiations between Air New Zealand and the Engineers’ Union on Friday have taken the heat out of the dispute, that threatened to disrupt domestic and international flights this week.
Although a settlement has still to be finalised, the parties reportedly had made considerable progress towards this goal when their meeting was adjourned at dawn oh Saturday. They will resume talks this morning, a move which has led to the postponement of the nationwide stopwork meeting planned for today. It will now be held tomorrow. Further industrial action is unlikely. A union spokesman was optimistic last evening that a settlement would be reached today. He said travellers could now make their bookings with confidence.
