John Adshead ‘should remain’
PA Auckland John Adshead’s future as the All Whites coach is expected to be known within a week. The New Zealand Football Association chairman, Warwick Gendall, said after a New Zealand Football Association council meeting: “The council has endorsed
Adshead’s appointment as coach of the All Whites and were positive he should remain.
“We had a similarly positive response from his employers when the matter was discussed.”
The build-up to the next phase will be discussed by the coach and the World Cup commit-
tee. Mr Gendall said the association and its Lon? don representative had explored the possibility of playing and training in England or Europe leading up to the away game against Israel on March 5. “It is really a question of cost,” said Mr Gendall.
“We don’t want to incur huge costs. I’m committed not to waste money, as I have already assured the players that their payments remain the priority.”
Mr Gendall said he already had the assurance that Swiss-based Wynton and Shane Rufer would be available for second-round matches.
He also hoped that English-based Ceri Evans would be available for selection if required. The association has yet to decide on venues for the home games against Israel and Australia, although it seems certain the game against Israel will be played in Auckland with Mt Smart the likely venue.
