North Canty in positive start

North Canterbury made a successful start in its bid for a U-Bix Cup cricket challenge when it beat Marlborough on the first innings in a two-day elimination match played at Mandeville over the weekend. Marlborough could ‘muster only 167 in its first innings with Gavin Mcßae (42) leading its batting and North Canterbury replied with 210. John Masefield (51) and Mike Satterthwaite (79) led its scoring at the top of the innings but its batting fell away in the latter stages as Phil D’auvergne got into his stride. He finished with the fine figures of seven for 88 from 33 overs. North Canterbury’s next match is against Buller on December 29-30 at Rangiora. MARLBOROUGH First innings J.
