Professor appointed
PA Dunedin Dr Philip Maldenov, of the Mount Allison University in Canada, has been appointed to a newly established professorship in marine science at the University of Otago. Dr Maldenov, aged 36, an associate professor in the biology department at Mount Allison, plans to take up his appointment at Otago next August. He graduated from the University of Toronto, completed his Ph.D. at the University of Alberta, then took up the position at Mount Allison in 1980. The University of Otago information officer, Catherine Froud, said Dr Maldenov was an internationally recognised marine scientist, with a reputation in several scientific disciplines.
