Bank staff brave Avon

ANZ Bank staff, suitably decked out in lifejackets, brave the Avon in a rubber raft in a water safety promotion. They are (left to right) Ms Sarah Hughes, Ms Megan Watson, Mr Geoff Clapp, Mr lan Beswick, Ms Julie Righton, Mr Mark Brosnahan, and Ms Virginia Hartley.

Two others accompanied the raft in canoes, while other ANZ staff walked along the banks, handing out water-safety booklets, floating key rings, and “Lifesaver” sweets.

The event publicised ANZ’s support of water

safety programmes, in the form of a $300,000 sponsorship over two years of the New Zealand Water Safety Council’s lifejacket and watersafety campaign. The council’s executive director, Mr Alan Muir, said that boating drownings was an area the council was able to concentrate on because of the bank’s sponsorship. There had been a decrease in boating drownings this year.
