Graduates in psychiatric care
Thirty students graduated yesterday from the first course for a certificate in community psychiatric care. The course, offered by Otago University through the Christchurch School of Medicine, was designed to develop skills in effective community support for those with long-term psychiatric disability. Students were taught the principles and practice of community psychiatric care and worked with the psychiatrically-disabled throughout the course. The one year part-time course is open to those with a tertiary qualification in health care. A clinical psychologist at Sunnyside Hospital and senior lecturer for the course, Mr Tom Marshall, said that this year’s students had worked very well producing quality work. The course is funded for three years by the health workforce development fund. Those who graduated yesterday were: J. Andrews, J. Attrill, B. Banks, R. Barker, J. Barry, M. Bentley, M. Bigwood, S.
