Graduates in psychiatric care

Thirty students graduated yesterday from the first course for a certificate in community psychiatric care. The course, offered by Otago University through the Christchurch School of Medicine, was designed to develop skills in effective community support for those with long-term psychiatric disability. Students were taught the principles and practice of community psychiatric care and worked with the psychiatrically-disabled throughout the course. The one year part-time course is open to those with a tertiary qualification in health care. A clinical psychologist at Sunnyside Hospital and senior lecturer for the course, Mr Tom Marshall, said that this year’s students had worked very well producing quality work.
