Championship start for Village Kid
NZPA-AAP Melbourne Perth trainer Bill Horn’s last-minute decision to bring his champion pacer, Village Kid, east for the Australian Pacing Championship (2380 m at Moonee Valley on Saturday night has already paid dividends. The defending A.P.C. champion has drawn favourably in barrier four for the sAustlso,ooo championship. Accompanying Village Kid on the trip from West Australia is Morgan James, which defeated Village Kid in a match race at Gloucester Park last month.
Village Kid returned to his best form at Richmond Raceway last Friday when he defeated Morgan James after racing without cover, recording a record mile rate of 1:58.9. While West Australia’s two representatives have fared favourably in the barrier draw, conducted at Flemington yesterday, the reigning InterDominion champion, Our Maestro wasn’t quite as fortunate.

him and Village Kid.
Our Maestro has returned from his New South Wales campaign where he won the Miracle Mile in hollow fashion and was then gallant in defeat when second behind Luxury Liner in the Max Trueur Memorial at Bankstown on Monday night. The Australian Pacing Championship field in barrier order is: Quite Famous (Vic.), Thorate (Tas.), Morgan James (W.A.), Village Kid (W.A.), Sir Reilly (Vic.), Our Maestro (Vic.), Another Bart (Vic.), Rowleyalla (N.S.W.), Robber John (S.A.).
