Sax ‘off list’
Mr John Sax, an Auckland businessman, whose name has been cleared from the socalled "Gang of 20” list, said he could not understand how he came to be on the list in the first place. His name was included among 29 people and 23 companies named by a Justice Department solicitor, Mr Keith Peterson, in a memorandum tabled in Parliament in May regarding alleged property fraud, in which became known as the “Gang of 20.” Last week-end, Mr Peterson, now a former Justice Department employee, having been suspended for his public comments and alleged leaking of documents on the matter, announced that he was removing Mr Sax from the list.
Mr Sax appeared before Parliament’s Justice and law Reform Select Committee in June asking it to hold an inquiry to clear his name. A Justice Department report tabled at the committee meeting said an inquiry would give credence to the allegations, and a “measure of importance which they do not merit.”
