Afghan rebels and the Soviet Union had agreed to continue Afghanistan peace talks in Pakistan in the near future, the rebels said yesterday. In a statement on the first round of talks, held in Saudi Arabia at the week-end, the rebels said they had agreed to allow Soviet troops to complete their withdrawal by midFebruary unharmed, so long as they in turn launched no attacks. The rebels have also agreed to a prisoner swap. The two sides had disagreed over whether the current Soviet-backed Afghan Administration should share in a future broad-based Government. The three rounds of talks, the first substantive negotiations in the 10-year-old guerrilla war, were held in the Saudi Arabian mountain resort of Taif, near Mecca.
