McKee filly may score overdue win

Special correspondent Auckland Anne of Stratford, so long overdue a win, has another chance at Ellerslie today, this time in a 1500 m event for three-year-olds. A filly from the McKee stable at Takanini, Anne of Stratford has run up six second placings in a row, the latest behind Olga’s Pal over 1600 m at the Auckland Racing Club’s meeting on November 26. Judged by that form, Anne of Stratford should be hard to beat in the Paxus Plate, Olga's Pal being near the top of the three-year-old ratings. Olga’s Pal beat her by just half a length -and that was at level weights. Anne of Stratford is not likely to find today’s race any easier, though, with the likes of Regal Echo, Sir Nova and come Racing to contend with. Regal Echo, so promising last season, is back after a six-week break. He has been twice second and once fourth in four attempts this season so he, also, is due a win. Sir Nova, from Woodville, has been Jetbet: 2 Race 1 TF 1-45 SUMMER CARNIVAL PRELUDE WELTER $7000; 1575 m 1 90 One Pound Foolish 11 . . . D. Miller 64.0 2 530 Voli Row 10 G. busy this season and very useful too. He looked a young horse of considerable promise when winning a class four 1600 m at Te Rapa on November 19, right on top of a 1600 m win on his home track. This will be an opportunity for Come Racing to indicate whether he will be up to matching the best three-year-olds during the Christmas and New Year holiday meetings. He failed to foot it with his brilliant stablemate, Greenback, in a between-races gallop at Pukekohe last Saturday, but has worked attractively meantime. The McKees have prospects too, with Master Raj in the second leg, the D.B. Draught 1575 for which the Jillings and Yuill partnership, the trainers of Come Racing, will produce the likely favourite, Climatech. Climatech, a four-year-old, is on a great run of form and will be going for his fifth win on end. Master Raj has any amount of ability, the pity is he so often spoils his chance by being slow from the gates. 12 0 Magic Seal 16 L. O’Sullivan 55.0 13 0706 Tres Reos 17 P.
