Supplier of New era begins business systems

Micro Business Systems, Ltd, is a well-established, Christchurch-based supplier of commercial business systems that include hardware, software (custom and off-the-shelf), installation, support and training. It perceives itself as providing solutions to its clients, adding value to services as opposed to the kind of firm whose primary interest lies in shifting boxes off their shelves. Micro Business Systems, Ltd, while being based in Christchurch, sees both Australia and S.E. Asia as being a “local” market. Making extensive use of modern technology such as modems and fax machines, Micro Business Systems, Ltd, is able to provide superior expertise to that available locally in either of these markets through its commitment to high quality products and consistent customer support.

Micro Business Systems, Ltd, specialises in: 1. Accounting software such as C.8.A., Profax and its new multi user version. Profit.

2. Networking — Micro

Business Systems, Ltd, was one of the first companies in New Zealand to embrace the new networking technology. It is able to provide both Novell and U.N.I.X. solutions.

On December 8, 1988, the Rt Hon. Mr R. J. Tizard will perform the opening ceremony of new premises for Micro Business Systems, Ltd, M.B.S. International, Ltd, and Trumic Cawston Associates, Ltd. Formerly the Irish Society Hall, the Christchurch architect Philip Kennedy has transformed the building into a modern and tasteful business complex. The company was formed to market Tourplan. Tourplan is a software package, operational on

five continents, written by a Christchurch firm, Trumic Cawston Associates, Ltd (T.C.A.). The head system analyst and programmer was T.C.A. managing director, Peter Trumic, M.Sc. (Hons 1).

Export sales generated by this product over the past 18 months, including hardware, exceed $1,000,000.

Countries in which Tourplan is used include U.K., U.S.A., Australia, Kenya and Japan.

The success of Tourplan has led directly to the creation of other tourist

industry products. They are:

I. and R., an Inventory and Reservations System — a system which provides for a whole range of tourism service providers including hotels and tour wholesalers. I. and R. allows on the spot tracking of all bookings and reservations functions.

Coachplan — a system for tourist vehicle operators which allows, among other things, the creation of self-defined itineraries, bookings, and driver and vehicle allocations.

Tourplan is a package which takes care of all the daily operational requirements of Tour Wholesalers (bookings, waitlists, itinerary generation, rapid quote preparation and many other aspects, too numerous to list). It is fully integrated with the C.B.A. accounting package, Australasia’s biggest selling accounting package. C.B.A. has over 5000 sites throughout Australia and New Zealand.

Tourplan enjoys market dominance among the major tour wholesalers in both Australia and New Zealand, with over 90 per cent of the major players. Written in 4GL Dataplex, export requirements have led to a U.N.I.X. version being develped in addition to the original Novell version. This D.O.S. to U.N.I.X. conversion process, while at present time consuming and cumbersome, has become so common that readers may have noted the recent announcement of X.D.0.5., a linear file conversion programme that quickly converts D.O.S. files to U.N.I.X.
