Lawyer expelled
Vanuatu has given a prominent foreign lawyer 14 days to leave the country in a move that could damage its standing as a tax haven. A constitutional lawyer, Peter Coombe, who has represented Barak Sope, archrival of the Prime Minister, Walter Lini, in several cases, said on Thursday he had received a letter signed by Mr Lini ordering him out of the South Pacific island State. “I would like to think (my expulsion) does not have anything to do with that (association with Sope). The letter gave no grounds,” said Mr Coombe, who holds New Zealand and British nationality. — Port Vila.
