Punts on Avon

Sir, —I would like to congratulate the Canterbury Promotion Council on its initiative in getting the punts back on the Avon River. During their relatively short lifetime the punts and Thomas Edmonds Restaurant became one' of the city’s bestknown attractions. The punts appear in local brochures, on the local telephone book, in TV advertisements, on promotional videos for the Town Hall and Parkroyal, in tourist promotional material, and in local and overseas films and TV programmes. Few, if any Christchurch tourist attractions could claim such exposure in the past few years. I would therefore like to urge that one of the City Council’s promotions director’s first tasks could be to ensure that both of these unique attractions operate this summer. — Yours, etc.,
