Polynesian arts group to tour
Twenty-six members of the Polynesian Performing Arts Trust will next week visit Hanmer Springs, Kaikoura, Blenheim and Nelson to perform and hold discussions on employment. The Waitaha Cultural Exchange Tour have rehearsed a 90-minute performance made up of music, dance and drama.
The trust’s director, Mr George Kahi, said group members, employed under the Puawai Access programme, hoped to discuss employment initiatives as well as the educational and training opportunities available under the Access programme. The group will perform at the Queen Mary Hospital about lunchtime on Wednesday and at the Kaikoura Marae on Wednesday evening. They will perform on Thursday about lunchtime in Blenheim at a venue yet to be arranged and then at the Nelson Marae in the evening.
Mr Kahi said it was the first tour undertaken by those who have been training on the Access programme for four months.
If the week’s trip is successful the group will undertake one to towns south of Christchurch.
Late in February the group plans to make a twoweek tour of the North Island with a similar theme.
