Kiwi cricket supporter killed
PA Wellington A New Zealand man on his way to the third cricket test in Hyderabad, India, was killed when he fell under a moving train. He was Garnet Maxwell Campbell, of Queenstown, who had shared in the New Zealand team’s second test victory celebra-
tions at Bombay. Mr Campbell was on an overnight train to Hyderabad when the accident happened. A police report said Mr Campbell fell after trying to join the moving train at an intermediate station. He was killed instantly. The New Zealand team manager, Ken Deas, said the team was shocked to hear of Mr Campbell’s
death, and offered condolences to his family. “He was a nice, quiet sort of bloke who had a few drinks with us in Bombay,” Mr Deas said. “It’s a terrible shame.” The New Zealand High Commissioner to India, Sir Edmund Hillary, was making arrangements to have Mr Campbell’s body returned to Queenstown.
