Caskey given suspension
Dick Caskey, the reinsman of Torfella in the Mount Hutt Pace at the Methven Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday, was suspended until December 17 for careless driving. Caskey was found guilty of allowing Torfella to strike the sulky of Fernside Boy with 1000 m to run. Torfella subsequently broke and caused the trailing Just A Rebel, Amanda’s Fella and Paleface Beau to fall. Jake The Peg dislodged his reinsman, Trevor Thomas, during the incident, while Local Lad was checked. Lynfield Lad, the favourite in the Ashmorven Stud Pace, was stood down until he trials satis-
factorily on two occasions after breaking free of interference 100 m from the finish. lan Lochhead, the trainer of Mascara, was fined $lOO for an unauthorised change of gear. Mascara will race with half-blinds in future. Murray Edmonds was fined $lOO for the late scratching of Olive Grove in the J. H. McKendry Pace. Lady Poplar was stood down to trial twice (standing starts only), while Cathedral has to trial twice before resuming in stake-bearing events. Hickory Stick was declared unruly from standing starts after the D.B. Trot.
