Peninsula preferred
Representatives of the Lyttelton Borough Council and the Akaroa and Mount Herbert County Councils have written to the Local Government Commission expressing a wish to be in the proposed Banks Peninsula Authority. The chairman of the Mount Herbert County Council, Mr David Collins, said the three councils had met and had reached agreement on such features as rating systems and boundaries. He said the Mount Herbert County Council had been disappointed and surprised to learn of its inclusion in the new Christchurch without prior consultation. "We are hopeful that the commission will see the merit of including the Mount Herbert County Council in the Banks Peninsula Authority,” Mr Collins said.
