Guidelines for attending a party

When the invitation is received, contact the parents of the party giver to: • Check the occasion. • Be sure that adults will present. © Offer assistance. 0 Be certain that there will be no alcohol or other drugs permitted. Know where your teenager will be. © Obtain the address and phone number of the party giver.

• Let your teenager know that you expect a phone call if location of the party is changed. • Have a family password which can be used in an emergency. Know how your teenager will get to and from the party. • Assure your teenager that you or a neighbour or a friend can be called if a ride home is needed. ® Discuss with your teenager the possible

situations which might require such a phone call. • If you are not going to be home, let your teenager know where you can be contacted. Be sure your teenager knows when to be home. Be sure your teenager always pours his/her own drinks. Be awake, or have your teenager wake you when he/she arrives home. This is often a good sharing

time. If your teenager stays overnight with a friend after a party, check with the parents of the friend beforehand. Ensure that they want your teenager to stay, they will be home and you both agree on the time to be home. Check that your teenager phones the party-giver the next day to express thanks.
