TENNIS Alistair Hunt will play the national 16 years teams tennis event after indicating he was unavailable last week. Hunt claimed that Kevin Woolcott (the national junior coach) had released him from commitments, but New Zealand Tennis has intervened and advised Hunt to play. Hunt will miss the Canterbury senior open tournament which he was eager to contest. The Canterbury Junior Association has already suffered the loss of Amanda Trail, in the girls’ team; she was released to play in senior tournaments. But the national body felt there was enough competition in the boys’ grade to warrant Hunt’s inclusion. Michael Zorocich (Auckland) has also been advised to play in the event for his province. Jonathan McHarg will lead the 14 years boys’ team and Margaret Meskill tops the 14 years’ age group for Canterbury.
