Owner fined $l500
A Christchurch racehorse owner, Donald Maxwell Ross, aged 47, was fined $l5OO, plus $7OO costs, on a corrupt practice charge by a subcommittee of the New Zealand Harness Racing Conference yesterday. The sub-committee comprised Messrs A. R. Corcoran (chairman), R. W. Dayne and A. F. McDonald. Mr B. A. Kitto prosecuted. Ross was charged under Rule 338 (c) in respect to his racing of the horse, Beryl Bromac. The sub-committee also made a recommendation that the conference executive not accept an
ownership transfer of Beryl Bromac if an exemption should be sought for a transfer. In other cases heard yesterday Murray Douglas Lawson, aged 36, of West Melton, was fined $5OO in respect to a change of ownership of the horse, Reaction; Murray William Rennie, of Sefton, was fined $lOO for failing to produce the horse, Gold Louie, for inspection; and Richard Neil Burton, aged 31, of Kaiapoi, was fined $3OO, plus costs $3OO, on a misconduct charge. Burton, a professional horseman, was also disqualified for three months.
