Workshop on cervical screening

More than 100 people will attend a workshop next month to develop a national cervical screening programme. Ms Fiona SaundersFrancis, of the primary health care programme at the Health Department, said that cervical screening was an important women’s health issue. “A screening programme requires cooperation from women’s and community groups, professional organisations and area health boards. Representatives of these groups will be at the workshop,” she said. Issues to be considered include uniformity and quality control of laboratory reporting, recall and recording systems, education and promotion, training and evaluation. The Minister of Health, Mr Caygill, will open the watkshop, which will run fr®m December 6 to 8.
