Addington Values for prime stock continue improving

Almost all prime stock continued to show improvement in values at the Addington market yesterday. Lambs improved up to $2 and some better-quality adult sheep were able to add $3 to values of last week. The top end of the cattle had a good sale, with prices a little stronger than last week. Pigs were the only stock to show a drop in values with a second week of large yardings, but fewer buyers. Prime lambs Lambs had a strong sale, with hoggets improving up to $2 on last week and spring lambs ahead by $1 to $1.50. More buyers than usual helped push prices up. A strong ewe sale saw prices fully recover from last week’s drop, with values improving by $2 over all. Topquality stock was able to gain $3 on last week’s rates in parts of the sale. Extra competition, with a buyer from Timaru, helped prices to improve.

Although the rise in prices was evident for most of the sale, selling became a little more difficult in the closing stages and prices dropped back by $l. A total of 2372 adult sheep was yarded, compared with 3309 last week. Values were.—

The top end of the cattle market had a good sale with some good-quality stock being offered.

While most heavy steers made up to $740, and exceptional sales of Angus-Here-ford cross and Charolais from L. J. G. Witte, of Teddington, reached $9OB, K. and E. Partridge, of Killinchy, were able to sell two Hereford cross steers at $B4B.

Cows again sold well, continuing last week’s strong sale. The larger number of cows offered saw some of the edge being taken off the market at times.
