Top sport from sedans
The ground-shaking sports sedans are always a major attraction at any New Zealand race track, and in the South Island spectators have been able to watch some of the country’s top competitors contest the O.S.C.A. series for many years. John Osborne’s Chevro-let-powered Mazda RX7 proved hard to beat at the October meeting and he must once again be favourite for outright honours at Sunday’s meeting.
lan Munt with his evergreen Capri Chev will be keen to show that he can still run at the front, while two comparative new-
comers to 0.5.C.A., Don Elvy and Mike Fitzgerald, are sure to stake their claim this season. While the big cars are sure to capture the crowd’s attention, October’s meeting produced some excellent racing in the revitalised 4-litre class. A repeat of the October duels between the Escorts of John Harcourt and Neville Agass can be expected, while Craig Hool is rapidly coming to grips with his Mazda RX3. Other top contenders in this class include Dave McNaughton, Jamie Stewart, formerly the street saloon champion.
