Fourth Aust, outlay drop?
NZPA-AAP Canberra The Australian Federal Government’s budget outlays are estimated to decline by 0.7 per cent in real terms in 1989-90, Australia’s treasurer, Mr Paul Keating, said yesterday. It would be the fourth successive year of outlays declining in real terms, Mr Keating and Finance Minister, Senator Peter Walsh,
said. The report shows outlays will rise 2.1 per cent in real terms in 1990-91 However, outlays as a proportion of Gross Domestic Product will decline to 25.6 per cent in 1988-89, the lowest proportion of GDP since 1974-75, and by 1991-92, outlays should fall to 23.7 per cent of GDP on a no policy change basis.
