Details of floral festival funding
Of the $25,000 set aside by the Christchurch City Council this year to fund festivals, $15,000 will go to the Floral Festival Committee, and $3OOO to the Arts Centre.
The council’s special grants committee recommended $ 15/100 for a floral festival committee to co-ordinate floral activities for the 1990 anniversary of New Zealand. It also suggested a separate budget allocation in future for floral festival support. The committee recommended the Arts Centre receive $3OOO of the $lO,OOO it sought for the Fringe ’B9 Festival at the centre. The remaining $7OOO the committee believes should be held over into next year’s budget for festival funding. It urged the council to increase its provision for festival funding in future budgets and reminded it of the policy that Summer Times be a rates-funded programme with any shortfall made up by provision in the budget rather than the Recreation and Community Development Fund.
