Rail trip
Sir,—Because of past experience of the rail ferry to Wellington I went by plane last Friday. While in Wellington I heard of the new rail coach to Christchurch and, as this is cheaper to me, I tried it. The manager and staff were pleasant and helpful; also, the refreshments were very good. However, the lack of protection from the sun for the passengers (most of whom were tourists) spoilt what should have enjoyable day. Surely some r thought could have been
given to the fact that those lovely big windows would need something like Venetian blinds. Also, there is no provision for small bags or coats, except on the floor. Passengers on the PictonChristchurch rail on November 14, 1988, will not be recommending that method of travel when there is a clear sky on a summer’s day. — Yours, etc., PHILIP LESLIE COLLINS. November 16,1988.
