Blaze at Linwood store
By
RICHARD CRESSWELL
A suspected arson attack extensively damaged the Mitre 10 hardware store in Linwood Avenue early yesterday morning. The store’s owner and manager, Mr Grant Genet, said he heard about the fire while at a
meeting in Auckland. “It is pretty grim,” he said. Friends and family, as well as Mitre 10 workers from other stores, were yesterday helping him clean up. The Fire Service said three engines and a snorkel spent 30 minutes
fighting the blaze, which destroyed much of the interior of the store. Mr Genet said much of the stock had been ruined. The fire is believed to have been started, using materials from a storage container, at the rear of the store.
