Justice Dept staff talks break down
By NEIL CLARKSON Limited industrial action by some Justice Department staff in Christchurch is under way after national negotiations on their conditions of employment stalled. Justice Department staff are holding meetings nationally to discuss the breakdown, and action has also begun in other parts of New Zealand. The registrar of the High Court in Christchurch, Mr Peter Fan-
tham, said staff had advised him of a ban on any communication with the department’s head office other than that involving negotiations over employment conditions. He said the action was not affecting the sittings of the court, lawyers or the public. The registrar of the District Court in Christchurch, Mr Robert Twidle, said his staff was taking similar action, with no disruption to local service.
