Reefton Hospital
Sir, —At a meeting of the West Coast Area Health Board last week a motion to delay for one month the closing of Reefton Hospital was amended to deferring closing until after the release of Mr McGuigan’s report on the board. Initially, some members considered that Mr McGuigan should complete his report within that month anyway. Meanwhile, it appears the board will proceed with alternative arrangements so the closing can be implemented as soon as possible thereafter. To contemplate disposing of Reefton Hospital because of “financial considerations” is unjust and immoral. The ability of this board to fulfil its obligations to all the people in its area certainly warrants investigation. — Yours, etc., ROSALIE SHERRATT. November 3, 1988.
