Band scoops seven awards
PA Auckland Holidaymakers have won seven of the top prizes at the New Zealand Music Awards. Holidaymakers were adjudged the most promising group. Their single “Sweet Lovers” also claimed the top spot. The Wellington group’s lead singers, Peter Marshall and Mara Finau, were named respectively most promising male vocalist and most promising
female vocalist. Nigel Stone won the producer and engineer awards, while Fane Flaws took the honours for the “Sweet Lovers” video. Other winners: Best album, “Loyal,” Dave Dobbyn; top male vocalist, Dave Dobbyn; top female vocalist, Shona Laing; top group, Herbs; special award for outstanding contribution to New Zealand music, Hugh Lynn; best jazz record, “Live at Ronnie Scott’s,” Beaver; best country record, "The Only Game in
Town,” The Warratahs; best classical record, "Prodigal Country,” New Zealand Symphony Orchestra; best Polynesian record, "Poi E,” Patea Maori Group; best folk record, “From the Edge,” Mike Harding; best gospel record, “Strange Logic," Derek Lind; best sleeve design, Lesley Maclean, “Pagan in a Pagan Land;” best film-cast soundtrack, "Poi E,” best producers Dalvanius and Dave Hurley; best songwriter, Rikki Morris, “Nobody Else,” top international performer, Neil Finn.
