Parts for cars
Sir,—Having cruised around many car dealers with the intention of purchasing a trendy Japanese imported car, I have come to the conclusion that the only parts readily available in New Zealand are for a Mazda RX7. Many Christchurch car dealers were astounded when I mentioned “no parts,” but this was the total case when I approached local franchise dealers. I would advise that before people sign to buy Japanese imported cars from over-zealous car salesmen anxious to turn a large profit, they make inquiries as to availability of parts. — Yours, etc. JOHN WORTHINGTON. September 21, 1988. [The secretary of the Canterbury branch of the Motor Vehicle Dealers Institute, Mr A. J. Sheard, replies: "The branch has no comment to make regarding Mr Worthington’s letter as the importation of vehicles is a matter of Government policy.”]
