Protester ‘in control room of N-sub’
A peace protester claimed in court yesterday he and two companions had entered the control room of a Polaris nuclear submarine. Phillip Jones, aged 25, made the claim at Dumbarton Sheriff Court after being charged with entering Faslane Royal Navy base on the Clyde, damaging the perimeter fence, and boarding a submarine. He told the court, “I’d like to say that I’m surprised we’ve only been charged with boarding the submarine. We not only boarded it, we managed to get into the control room.” Jones, lan Mills, aged 23, and Miles Valence, aged 17, all of Faslane peace camp, denied damaging the base perimeter fence, and challenged the competency of the local by-laws They were released on bail and are to appear on October 28
