Square concert to open programme
Music lovers should listen for the rolling rhythms and lyrical tunes that will waft through Cathedral Square during lunchtime today. A “Hazy Days” concert will be held between 12.30 p.m. and 2 p.m. as part of the “Spring’s Here” programme. The Sacred Sisters will open with its unique brand of folk and rap. The songwriter, singer and pianist, Phoebe Gray, will perform her distinct style of jazz and blues and a newly established duo, Simon and Geordie Funkel, will finish off the medley. The inner city will be invaded by clowns, singers, escapologists and musicians for six consecutive weeks during “Spring’s Here.” Each Wednesday lunchtime and on two special “Folk Fridays” performers will fill the Square with music, laughter and tapping feet. The programme is: October 19: “Spring Fever,” dancing feats. October 21: “Folk Friday,” a guitar duo featuring Graham Wardrop and Mark Olmstead. October 26: "Classic Quizz,” Christchurch’s top dance and music groups. October 29: “Folk Friday,” a guitar duo. November 2: "Pacific Sounds,” Polynesian performing arts. November 9: “Sound Dimensions,” a special performance by deaf artists.
