Tradecom visit

Three New Zealand trade commissioners overseas are to return to New Zealand next month to encourage local manufacturers to export to Japan and Korea. Mr John Hundleby, based in Osaka; Mr Niels Holm, based in Tokyo; and Mr Cliff Fuller, based in Seoul, will be in Christchurch in October. Currency appreciation and record trade surpluses have given the increasingly prosperous consumers of Japan and Korea access to more and wider ranging imports, while their industries draw more of their raw materials and equipment from abroad, the commissioners said in announcing their visit. “Exporters from around the world are recognising this and upping their market development investment in Japan and Korea. Imports are at record high levels.” The commissioners said

the export potential for New Zealand remains seriously under developed and they are keen to upgrade perceptions of what are now New Zealand’s first and seventh largest export markets. They said they are eager to work side by side with exporters to help them identify prospects and begin selling. “We are now better placed than ever before to do this: There is no better reflection of our confidence in these markets than the growth of our own presence there.” The commissioners have compiled a number of reports on sectors of the Japanese economy where there are good opportunities for New Zealand suppliers. The reports, available from Tradeeom, range from rugby equipment to boats and marine equipment, and to camping equipment.
