Shop burgled
PA Wellington A Lower Hutt man was told “you might be a likeable fellow ... but you’re also a burglar” by a District Court Judge who sentenced him to six months imprisonment. The police summary said John Walker, aged 34, unemployed, and a group of associates went for a drive on the night of August 24 to find a place to burgle. In the early hours of August 25, they stopped at
a group of shpps where Walker and a 15-year-old relative made a hole in a supermarket door to gain entry. But Walker could not get into the main part of the shop because of a steel security door. When the police arrived he was in the washroom. After sentencing Walker, Judge Henwood said she hoped he would soon give up offending. “It must be about time, at your age, to give it up.”
