Chris Cairns to replace injured Thomson

By

JOHN KELLEY

for NZPA in Harare

The young New Zealand seam bowler, Shane Thomson, fractured a finger while batting against Zimbabwe on Sunday, the tour manager, Ken Deas, confirmed. He said Thomson was hit on the joint of the right hand little finger.

It seemed badly bruised but a doctor has confirmed a fracture.

He will not play again on the tour but is to stay on in Harare a further week before being sent home.

Thomson is to be replaced by Chris Cairns, son of the former test cricketer Lance Cairns, Deas said.

The Young New Zealand side played Zimbabwe yesterday in a limited overs match.

It was defeated on Sunday by just four runs in a tense and dramatic fourday match.
