Subdivision offers recreation, crafts
A Christchurch man plans to offer a subdivision on the Old West Coast Road which includes areas for recreation and crafts as well as the standard sections. The developer of “Edendale,” Mr Peter Stafford, said the proposal in the Malvern county was still open to objection and had yet to be approved by the Malvern County Council. There had been no objections yet, he said. Sections of one hectare and six hectares will be offered and the subdivi-
sion is planned to include a village centre for recreational activities, as well as a retail shop and information centre. Smaller sections will sell for about $55,000 including GST, and larger areas for about $BB,OOO. The retail outlet would allow buyers to sell produce and earn money within the subdivision, he said. The land area was worth about $1 million while the capital value with all facilities would come to about $lO million. Mr Stafford has been
farming in the area for 40 years and is retaining 30 hectares which he runs as a Cashmere goat stud farm. Mr Stafford, a Roman Catholic, said the subdivision was designed to provide a caring supporting atmosphere, but would not be a commune. It would not be a religious settlement and would be open to non Christian and Christian alike, he said. Organic food production would be promoted as a way of making better use of the land.
