N.Z. Post to seek fax network
PA Auckland New Zealand Post wants to pick up Telecom’s abandoned public fax network. Telecom axed its public fax service on September 1, the same day the public telegram service stopped. The regional manager, Mr Ben Moule, said New Zealand Post was now evaluating the service to see whether it was viable to continue. He said a public fax service would be maintained at Auckland Central, South Auckland, Papakura, Howick, Papatoetoe and Whangarei post offices until a final decision had been made. Telecom’s Auckland manager of consumer services, Mr Mike O’Connor, said the public fax service was sold to Freightways Group, Ltd, as part of the telegram network. New Zealand Post would compete for customers with Freightways and a new fax network being set up by the Red Eagle Corporation which will begin in November.
