Plums from statistics on U.K. cars
One British household in five now has two or more cars — but one household in three has no car at all. That means the number of two-car households has almost doubled in the last 10 years, says Britain’s Transport Department. A few more plums from the department’s statist!-
cal pudding: London traffic moves at an average 27km/h at peak times, 33km/h off peak. Nearly 15 per cent of road traffic is on motorways — it was only 11 per cent in 1980, 5 per cent in 1970. Road deaths went up 4 per cent to 5400 last year.
